Rain-marred opening day finishes with a blockbuster as New York Warriors secure first win of US Masters T10

After the first two matches of the day were washed out, the final fixture that saw New York Warriors and Morrisville Unity going head-to-head produced an absolute ripper of a contest that sent the audience into a pulsating tizz of frenzy.

Put into bat first, the Warriors got off to a flyer as Kamran Akmal and Tillakaratne Dilshan blasted a handful of solid strikes. However, the star of the show was none other than Richard Levi who got in the groove and launched the bowlers into every nook and cranny of the park. The former South African cricketer raised the stakes of the game with a game-changing 66 from just 25 balls while the Warriors piled up 124 from their quota of 10 overs.

Morrisville Unity had a shaky start to their campaign as they lost Parthiv Patel early and Chris Gayle couldn’t add any impetus to the chase either. Manvinder Bisla and Corey Anderson followed the lean suit that was set by the Universe Boss and Parthiv Patel, leaving the Unity teetering at 33/4.

It was Obus Pienaar and Shehan Jayasuriya who put up a resolute show by blasting 35 from 12 balls and 28 from 10 balls respectively to propel Morrisville close to the target despite the game looking well out of reach at one point. Shahid Afridi held his nerve and delivered a dot off the last ball of the game when Morrisville were still in with a chance of taking the game to a super over with a six.
