Hafeez half-century in vain as Arabians lose to Tigers | Full scorecard
The
Bangla Tigers’ bowlers put up a splendid show to guide the team to their first victory of the season as the
Maratha Arabians continued to struggle.
Choosing to field first, the Tigers bowled superbly to keep the
Arabians shackled in the first six overs, which fetched them only 45 runs.
However, the opening duo of
Mohammad Hafeez and
Abdul Shakoor switched gears in the eighth over by smacking 21 runs off it and continued the offence with 20 in the next.
Pakistan international Hafeez registered his fifty as the Arabians completed the highest opening stand of the season, ending with 103/0 on the scoreboard at the end of their innings.
The Tigers, on the other hand, did not waste any time to get going, with captain
Andre Fletcher keeping the scoring rate in double digits with his sixes and fours, despite a slight niggle.
The Arabians had some success towards the end but it was too little, too late as the Tigers roared their way to a six-wicket win with 12 balls remaining.
Brief scores: Maratha Arabians 103/0 (Mohammad Hafeez 61*) lost to Bangla Tigers 105/4 in 8 overs (Andre Fletcher 31, Sohag Gazi 1/17) by 6 wickets.
Shahid Afridi stars in Qalandars rout of Team Abu Dhabi | Full scoreboard
Team Abu Dhabi’s search for their first win of the season continues as they were outmatched by the clinical all-round display from the
Qalandars.
Opting to bowl first, the Qalandars were able to find early success with the wicket of
Chris Gayle. Pakistan great
Shahid Afridi rolled back the years with his crafty bowling, sending back a well settled
Paul Stirling for 29 (16) and
Ben Duckett in the sixth over.
A very disciplined bowling effort capped the flow of runs, but some late fireworks by Englishman
Joe Clark helped Team Abu Dhabi put up a respectable total of 100/5 at the end of their allotted overs.
The chase started with a bang, with
Tom Banton pounding a breezy 30 off 14 as the Qalandars reached 53/1 at the halfway mark.
There was a slight slump in the run-scoring in the middle of the innings but confident strokeplay by
Sharjeel Khan (40 off 21) and captain
Sohail Akhtar (27 off 17) sealed a comfortable victory for the Qalandars with 10 balls to spare.
Brief scores: Team Abu Dhabi 100/5 (Joe Clark 34, Shahid Afridi 2/16) lost to Qalandars 104/1 in 8.2 overs (Sharjeel Khan 40, Naveen-ul-Haq 1/19) by 9 wickets
Parnell’s hat-trick and Pooran’s onslaught slays Delhi Bulls | Full scoreboard
A
Nicholas Pooran blitzkrieg followed by a
Wayne Parnell hat-trick helped the
Northern Warriors tame the
Delhi Bulls to triumph by 32 runs.
Batting first, the Warriors had a sluggish start with only 12 runs in three overs, courtesy of some world-class bowling by
Waqas Maqsood, who gave just one run in his two overs.
However, it was a Nicholas Pooran show from thereon. The Trinidadian made it rain with five maximums and five fours on his way to a 16-ball half-century.
Nicholas Pooran, on his way out, passed the baton to
Fabian Allen, who smacked 34 off 11 as the Warriors posted the highest score of this edition – 137/3 in 10 overs.
It was going to take a herculean effort by the Bulls to get close to their target and losing regular wickets only made it tougher.
Ravi Bopara waged a lone battle with a gritty 36 but none of his team-mates could provide any support.
South African pacer
Wayne Parnell’s hat-trick in the ninth over was the final nail in the coffin which all but ended the Bulls’ hopes of a recovery.
Brief scores: Northern Warriors 137/3 (Nicholas Pooran 54, Waqas Maqsood 1/1) defeated Delhi Bulls 105/7 (Ravi Bopara 36, Wayne Parnell 3/15) by 32 runs
